Sales Formats
The original HSTB retailer system described sales formats as programs that could help make an independent store unique in its marketplace.
Truckload Sales
Truckload became more than a collection of low prices. It was a destination event with a recognizable ad format, advance promotion, bulk buying and a strong connection to the store's meat identity.
Make the promotion look like an event
If a Truckload Sale looks like an ordinary weekly meat ad, customers have little reason to treat it differently. Give it a recognizable name and appearance, then repeat it consistently.
Build anticipation
The historic retailer instructions promoted the event well before the sale, giving existing customers time to plan and giving them something to tell friends about.
Use the customer list as an advantage
Email was already part of the HSTB strategy. The principle still applies: the list should provide a real advantage such as advance notice, early access or useful information.
Other HSTB formats
Historic presentations also identify Dollar Days, Bob's Family Deals, Bob's Meat Menu and email campaigns.
